  Tip of the Month
Boost your AdSense revenue with improved ad styles

By making your ads more visible for users, you can increase your click through rate and ultimately your AdSense revenue. Base the colour design of your ad units on one or more of the three basic techniques: Blend, Complement or Contrast (see below). We've found through working with publishers that ads with light coloured borders or no borders at all perform best.

When choosing colours, also take the position of your ad units into consideration: If an ad is well integrated into your site's content, blending the ads can underline the feeling of contextual relevance. For an ad unit which is further away from the main content, more contrasting colours can help catching the user's attention. If you have a website with repeat visitors, you might want to switch the ad colours occasionally to avoid ad blindness. Remember, the goal isn't to confuse users into thinking ads are content, but to get users to see and read the ads so they can click on those that interest them.

  Optimise your ad styles today

We've also recently launched an improvement to our default font settings. For each ad unit that's set to show the default font face and font size, our system will now automatically show the best-performing option. You can find more information about this improvement in our Inside AdSense blog.

Updates
AdSense now speaks Indonesian
We are happy to announce that we launched AdSense for Indonesian content on February 1st. If you have a website or a mobile optimised site in Bahasa Indonesia, you'll now be able to earn money by showing Google AdSense ads. Simply implement AdSense on your site in Bahasa Indonesia to start displaying contextually targeted ads.

Read more about this in our Inside AdSense blog.

Publisher satisfaction - Your feedback matters
If you're opted in to receive occasional surveys from us, you may have seen or filled out our bi-annual publisher satisfaction survey. Over 28,000 publishers participated globally, and we received more than 33,000 comments on your favourite aspects about AdSense as well as changes you'd like to see. Your feedback is very important to us and helps us to make the program better for all of you.

Read more about the results of the survey and the steps we're taking to address your suggestions on our Inside AdSense blog.

Update your AdSense contact details
We've heard from some publishers that they prefer to receive AdSense-related messages at a different email address than the one we currently use to contact them. You can now specify your preferred personal contact email, contact name and phone number you'd like us to use to reach you. You can find more information in our Inside AdSense blog.

Dear Google user,

We're getting rid of over 60 different privacy policies across Google and replacing them with one that's a lot shorter and easier to read. Our new policy covers multiple products and features, reflecting our desire to create one beautifully simple and intuitive experience across Google.

We believe this stuff matters, so please take a few minutes to read our updated Privacy Policy and Terms of Service at http://www.google.com/policies. These changes will take effect on March 1, 2012.

One policy, one Google experience
Easy to work across Google Tailored for you Easy to share and collaborate
Easy to work across Google

Our new policy reflects a single product experience that does what you need, when you want it to. Whether reading an email that reminds you to schedule a family get-together or finding a favorite video that you want to share, we want to ensure you can move across Gmail, Calendar, Search, YouTube, or whatever your life calls for with ease.

Tailored for you

If you're signed into Google, we can do things like suggest search queries – or tailor your search results – based on the interests you've expressed in Google+, Gmail, and YouTube. We'll better understand which version of Pink or Jaguar you're searching for and get you those results faster.

Easy to share and collaborate

When you post or create a document online, you often want others to see and contribute. By remembering the contact information of the people you want to share with, we make it easy for you to share in any Google product or service with minimal clicks and errors.

Protecting your privacy hasn't changed

Our goal is to provide you with as much transparency and choice as possible, through products like Google Dashboard and Ads Preferences Manager, alongside other tools. Our privacy principles remain unchanged. And we'll never sell your personal information or share it without your permission (other than rare circumstances like valid legal requests).

Understand how Google uses your data

Got questions?
We got answers.

Visit our FAQ at http://www.google.com/policies/faq to read more about the changes. (We figured our users might have a question or twenty-two.)

Notice of Change

March 1, 2012 is when the new Privacy Policy and Terms will come into effect. If you choose to keep using Google once the change occurs, you will be doing so under the new Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.

Please do not reply to this email. Mail sent to this address cannot be answered. Also, never enter your Google Account password after following a link in an email or chat to an untrusted site. Dear publisher,

We believe in the idea of "Focus on the user and all else will follow." Likewise, in order for you to generate traffic and grow your site, it's important to understand your users, their goals, and how they interact with your site. • AdSense Success Story:  i-do.com.au
  • Testing your knowledge with the AdSense Academy

Understand your users to improve their experience

Users with a positive experience during their visit are more likely to stay longer on your site, return to your site in the future, or recommend your site to others. Your site's content should focus on helping users achieve their goals - while meeting your business goals.

Understanding how users interact with your site will help you identify pages that could be improved. Moreover, it will help you find optimal placements for your ad units. Remember, users come to your site to see your content, so ads which are positioned where they enter your site, engage with content, and leave your site are more visible and thus perform better.

Google Analytics provides webmasters with many tools for measuring website traffic, and gives you insights into your visitors' flow through a site. It allows you to get information on the engagement of users with your content, or the retention rate. With custom reports  you can track and visualise different dimensions and metrics about your audience. Once you know which sections of your site are most popular and which links are most clicked, you can place your ads near those areas. Ads placed near rich content and navigational aids for example usually do well because they naturally get a lot of attention.

...Did you know?

Improving ad relevance and targeting

If you've ever experienced ad targeting issues on your site, leading to irrelevant ads or blank space, you might be interested in learning about the five most common reasons:

1. The ad code is not in the same frame as the main content of your website.
2. Your site contains mainly non text-based content.
3. The AdSense crawler has no access to your pages.
4. You are using an individual session ID for each user.
5. The language of your text-based content is not supported by AdSense.
